Symptom: The low beams light up very little of the road, even with new bulbs.

Likely causes

  1. Reflector chrome. Owners on NissanForums and NICOclub find it peeling or burnt inside the housing. When that happens, a new bulb won't help and the assembly needs replacing.
  2. The inner lens. It can haze over, and some owners clean it through the bulb opening.
  3. The outer lens. Oxidation clouds it.

DIY or shop?

All three are DIY-able. Replacing the assembly means partly removing the bumper cover, and the lights need re-aiming afterward.

Useful steps

  1. Look through the bulb opening with a flashlight.
  2. Restore the outer lens first, since it's the cheapest fix.
  3. Re-aim the headlights afterward.

Vehicle focus: 2013–2015 Nissan Altima.

Safety / mechanic note

Poor headlights reduce how far you can see at night. Fix this before winter.
