Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information CarFix Answers (“we”, “us”) collects when you use askcarfix.com (the “Site”), how it is used, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Information you submit
- “What actually fixed it?” reports: the fix you select or describe, the cost you paid, mileage, vehicle year, make and model, optional notes, the page you submitted from, and the time of submission. We don't ask for your name or email on this form. Reports are used to show aggregated confirmed-fix counts and to improve answers.
- Contact form: your name, email address, subject and message, and the time sent. We use this only to read and reply to your message and to correct pages.
Please don't include sensitive personal information (such as your VIN, license plate, address or financial details) in free-text fields.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs: our hosting and security provider (Cloudflare) processes standard request data such as IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps to deliver the Site and protect it from abuse.
- Search: the search box runs in your browser; what you type is not sent to us.
- Analytics: we do not currently use a third-party analytics service. If we add one (for example Google Analytics or Cloudflare Web Analytics), we will update this policy.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. The Site itself does not set cookies for its own features. Third parties described below — advertising partners and affiliate retailers — may set and read cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies when you visit the Site or click a link.
Advertising
We use, or may use, Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.
- If you opt out, you may still see ads, but they won't be personalized based on your browsing. Google may show non-personalized ads, which still use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention.
- Learn more about how Google uses data at How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Where required by law (for example in the EEA, UK and Switzerland), ads are served with a consent message that lets you accept or decline personalized ads.
Amazon Associates and affiliate links
CarFix Answers is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. When you click a parts link, Amazon may set cookies to record the referral. Amazon's handling of your data is covered by Amazon's Privacy Notice. See our disclosure.
How we use information
- To operate, maintain and improve the Site and its answers.
- To show aggregated fix counts (never individual reports tied to a person).
- To respond to messages and corrections.
- To prevent spam, abuse and fraud.
We do not sell your personal information for money. We don't share contact-form messages with third parties except service providers that host our data (Cloudflare) or when required by law.
Data storage and retention
Submissions are stored in a database hosted by Cloudflare. We keep fix reports as long as they're useful for the answers and contact messages only as long as needed to handle your request. You can ask us to delete information you submitted.
Your rights: California (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request access to or deletion of it, to correct it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Advertising cookies set by third parties may be considered “sharing”; you can opt out with the Google and aboutads.info links above or by using a browser-level Global Privacy Control signal. We won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Your rights: EEA/UK (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we process personal data on the basis of your consent (for personalized ads and cookies), our legitimate interests (operating and securing the Site, responding to messages), and to comply with legal obligations. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Making a request
To exercise any of these rights or ask a question, use our contact page. We may need to verify your request.
Children's privacy
The Site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us and we will delete it.
Third-party links
Answer pages link to forums, NHTSA and retailers. Their privacy practices are their own; please review their policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The effective date at the top shows when it last changed.
