Symptom: After hitting a bump at speed, the front end and steering wheel shake violently until you slow way down.
Likely causes
- Track bar. Cummins Forum owners most often fix it by replacing the track bar, not just its bushings.
- Other steering parts. Owners also check ball joints, tie rods, the steering box and tire balance. A new damper can hide the problem without fixing it.
DIY or shop?
Track bar is DIY for many. Full steering inspection is a shop job.
Useful steps
- Have someone turn the wheel while you watch for play.
- Replace worn parts, not just the damper.
- Check tire balance and pressure.

Safety / mechanic note
Death wobble can make the truck very hard to control. Slow down firmly and safely. Verify with a mechanic or dealer.
